Rare Beatles Acetate Auctioned

The Beatles were suppose to release the Best of Beatles compilation in 1964 as a two LP set through Capitol Records. The project was to include the group's Capitol hits as well as some of their material from Vee-Jay but once the fact that Vee-Jay still owned the rights to the material until a later date was discovered, the set was shelved. Well now the rare acetates of the Best of Beatles album will be going up for auction with a starting bid of $10,000 on August 9th.

The acetates will include a letter of authenticity from Clifford J. Yamasaki of Let It Be Records that reads, "I certify that this 2 LP acetate of 'The Best of the Beatles' is one of two known to exist and was purchased from a Capitol Records executive for a project that was scrapped. The project: #46934-41. The date of pressing: 6-2-64."

Side 1 of the project includes: "Twist and Shout," "Love Me Do," "I Want To Hold Your Hand," "From Me To You," "This Boy," and "Roll Over Beethoven."

Side 2 includes: "Do You Want to Know a Secret," "Boys," "Ask Me Why," "She Loves You," "You Really Got a Hold On Me," and "Long Tall Sally."

Side 3 includes: "All My Loving," "P.S. I Love You," "Please Please Me," "Chains," "Devil In Her Heart," and "Please Mr. Postman."

Side 4 includes: "Misery," "Money," "There's a Place," "Baby It's You," "It Won't Be Long," and "All I've Got to Do."
