These continue to be tough times economically for some of the biggest chains in America.

In the past couple of years, there has been a rash of closings in both retail and restaurant locations across the country.

The latest to shutter multiple spots is Outback Steakhouse, where the bloom is definitely off the onion.

According to Nation's Restaurant NewsOutback's parent company, Bloomin’ Brands Inc., has just shut the doors on 41 restaurants that it refers to as 'under-performing'. The closures also include Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Bonefish Grill, and Fleming’s locations also owned by Bloomin' Brands.

That includes one Tri-State (South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota) location.

The Corridor Business Journal is reporting that the Outback restaurant in Cedar Rapids closed February 23 with no notice, only a note posted on the door directing guests to the company’s website for other locations.

The Outback had operated out of that location since 1997.

The Cedar Rapids closing was one of 33 on Friday alone. Two other Outbacks closed in Iowa in the past ten years (Coralville in 2014 and Davenport in 2019).

The chain still operates three other restaurants in the Hawkeye State.
