NBA Player Loses Two-Thirds of His Salary on One Play
Dahntay Jones signed a deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers right before the playoffs. He managed to lose two-thirds of his salary in three minutes.
Playing on a very cheap contract worth $9,127, Jones jumped on board for an opportunity to win a second ring with the Cavaliers. He played just three minutes in Game 1 against Toronto and in that time he managed to lose a good chunk of cash.
No, really.
Jones was charged with a double technical foul in the 4th quarter that resulted in him getting ejected from the game. That fine from the NBA runs $6,000 ($4,000 for the two technical fouls and $2,000 for the ejection) according to FanDuel.
Yikes. On the bight side, according to Spotrac, Jones has earned about $3 Million since 2011.
Jones was drafted 20th overall in 2003 by the Boston Celtics, and was immediately traded to Memphis. He has had stops in Sacramento, Fort Wayne (D-League), Denver, Indiana, Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles Clippers, Grand Rapids Drive (D-League), and the Cavaliers.
