Metallica’s Scholars Program Adds South Dakota, Minnesota Schools
Over the years, Metallica has become well-known for two things: rocking hard and giving back just as hard.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band's foundation, All Within My Hands, has raised more than $6 million since it began in 2017, supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services.
For the last four years, the foundation has also given back through the Metallica Scholars Initiative, which partners with the American Association of Community Colleges to provide schools around the country with $100,000 each to enhance the student experience within career and technical education programs.
The year five roster of schools includes community colleges in South Dakota and Minnesota.
Western Dakota Technical College in Rapid City and South Central College in North Mankato are part of the 11 new schools added for 2023. The money they receive will be used for workforce opportunities for students interested in gaining the skills and training necessary to find meaningful and well-paying careers. Additional curricula will include culinary arts, fire technology, hospitality, and many other fields of study.
Iowa's Clinton Community College is among the 33 other schools that are returning this year.
