A Rapid City man accused of neglecting horses was arrested Wednesday, February 5, near Canistota and is now being held in the Sioux Falls jail.

Donald Harwood and his wife Terry, were sentenced October 9, 2013 at a hearing that neither attended, prompting arrest warrants for the husband and wife.

In January of 2013, Pennington County authorities took 69 horses from Harwood's leased property.  Many of the horses were not fed or given water.

In August, a jury convicted the Harwoods on nine counts each of inhumane treatment of an animal.  Donald Harwood received five years in prison and Terry Harwood received a one-year jail sentence.
