A lot ot the fraud committed in the world these days revolves around the notion of getting something for nothing, with unsuspecting consumers losing nearly $200 billiion annually, according to the latest studies.

Ironically, one group is trying to educate the public about fraud by giving away something for nothing.

AARP South Dakota is hosting a trio of 'Free Fraud Flicks' across South Dakota this month, as part of Fraud Prevention Month. The events are scheduled for Aberdeen, Rapid City, and Sioux Falls.

In Aberdeen and Rapid City, a free screening of Catch Me if You Can (PG-13) is being offered.

This 2002 film stars Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio. It is the true story of teenage con artist Frank Abagnale Jr. (DiCaprio), who successfully impersonates a pilot, doctor, and lawyer while being pursued by FBI agent Carl Hanratty (Hanks).

The Aberdeen showing is Monday, April 21st, at 7:00 PM CT at the Aberdeen Community Theater.

The Rapid City showing is Thursday, April 23rd at 7:00 PM MT at the AMC Classic 10 Theaters.

In Sioux Falls, AARP will show the movie Thelma (PG-13).

This 2024 comedy-drama film stars June Squibb as a 93-year-old woman who embarks on a quest to reclaim her stolen money after falling victim to a phone scam.

The Sioux Falls showing is Monday, April 27th, at 7:00 PM at the State Theatre.

All three events are free, but registration is required, and seating is first-come, first-served.
