‘Joe Dirt 2′ Is in the Works as a Made-for-Streaming Movie
We never thought in a million years 'Joe Dirt 2' would come to fruition, but never say never, especially when your name is Joe Dirt. He is in the one who said, "Things are gonna happen for me."
It's been more than 13 years since we last saw David Spade mullet-ed up as Joe Dirt, and Crackle, Sony's online streaming service, wants to continue his legacy with 'Joe Dirt 2.' This will be the first movie sequel to be made for the digital space ... which is something, right?
"I’m beyond stoked that 'Joe Dirt' will finally hit the screens again on Crackle,” said David Spade, who is confirmed to return for 'Joe Dirt 2.' “I’ve been sleeping in this wig for years and it will be nice to wear it in the daytime again."
Continued Eric Berger, Crackle GM and Sony EVP of Digital Networks, "David Spade had a fresh and unique vision for 'Joe Dirt 2' that he could have brought anywhere and we couldn't be happier that he brought it to Crackle for a first-of-its-kind, worldwide release. The original film has been a longtime viewer favorite, ranking among the most viewed in our library, and we decided to produce and distribute the sequel as a feature for fans everywhere."
Spade famously played the character in 2001's 'Joe Dirt,' which saw a mullet-sporting idiot on the search for his parents after they abandoned him at the Grand Canyon as a child. Now that case was closed by the end of the film, but according to Crackle, 'Joe Dirt 2' is going to pick up right where the first one left off. Did everything work out with Dirt and Brandy (Brittany Daniels)? Will any of the Dirt's old buddies return for the sequel? Eh, we're not that invested to ponder those questions for very long.
'Joe Dirt 2' will, unfortunately, premiere on Crackle in 2015. But, hey, "It's not what you like, it's the consumer," right?
