If you're looking to get some ZZZs, you can't do better than we do here in Minnesota!
Living here in Minnesota, we're used to our state being ranked near the top in many different areas of life, right? From our state's beautiful geography and plentiful lakes and rivers to our above-average schools and access to top-rated healthcare, the North Star State has a lot going for it.
And that now includes our ability to get a good night's sleep. That's the word from a new sleep survey that just ranked all 50 states according to a sleep study from the United Health Foundation's American Health Rankings.

The study was conducted by the number-crunchers over at legal cannabis brand Exhale Wellness and looked at the latest data to see which states had the lowest percentage of adults who reported sleeping, on average, fewer than seven hours a night.
Getting enough sleep each night is important, and besides being tired, not getting enough sleep can hurt other aspects of your health, as well. WEbbMD says that while it might not seem like a big deal to miss a few hours of shut-eye, sleeping less than 7 hours a night can be linked to a higher risk of conditions like:
- Heart disease
- Stroke
- Diabetes
- Mood disorders
- Obesity
And, it's expensive too. WebMD says sleep-related problems cost Americans nearly $16 billion a year in medical bills, according to some estimates. So it's good news that Minnesota ranked as the best state in the country for sleeping, right?
That's exactly where the Land of 10,000 Lakes ranks-- first in the nation for getting sleep, with just under a third of Minnesotans getting less than 7 hours of sleep per night. Here's what the Exhale Wellness study said:
Minnesota is the state getting the best sleep in the US, with only 28.33% of adults reporting sleeping, on average, less than seven hours in 24 hours. 20.80% of adults over 65 wrote insufficient sleep, whereas 31.60% of adults aged 45-64 said the same, followed by 32.60% for adults aged 18-44.
On the other end of the spectrum, Hawaii was the state ranked dead last when it comes to residents getting the most sleep, with 45.4% of adults reporting sleeping, on average, less than seven hours in 24 hours. Here's the list of the top ten states for sleeping:
