According to Happy Joe's Wiki page, the pizza chain was founded in Bettendorf, Iowa in 1972 by Lawrence Joseph "Happy Joe" Whitty, a former Shakey's Pizza manager.

Happy Joe's menu includes a variety of pizza choices, wings, pasta, sandwiches, and ice cream. Also, each restaurant features an arcade area for guests to enjoy.

Most of Happy Joe's establishments are in Iowa, but there are two operating in Minnesota (Crookston and New Ulm), with an additional six coming soon to the Twin Cities area. Pizza Marketplace reported about the expansion and says the restaurants are scheduled to be open by late 2024 or early 2025

Tom Sacco,  the company's "chief happiness officer", CEO, and president said, "It's a great time for entrepreneurs to join the Happy Joe's family. Our customers and franchisee candidates have taken notice of our new look in stores and online, leading to plenty of interest in owning a Happy Joe's. With more locations coming to Minnesota and beyond, we'll be serving up pizza, ice cream, and smiles to more and more communities!"
