Why Hasn’t Caitlin Clark Officially Entered the WNBA Draft?

Before Iowa's postseason run began, Iowa's Caitlin Clark announced that she would not be coming back to the Hawkeyes for her remaining season of eligibility. She would be taking her talents to the WNBA. But some fans are now wondering why Caitlin hasn't submitted the official paperwork to enter this spring's draft. Could a return to Iowa be in the cards?

Unfortunately for Hawkeye fans, the answer to that question is 'No.' Clark has made her decision and seems at peace with it. And Caitlin isn't the only top collegiate player to not fill out the draft paperwork. KWWL reports that Kamilla Cardosa from South Carolina, who also declared her intentions of going pro, also has yet to fill out WNBA Draft forms. The reason that these two top players haven't officially entered the draft is fairly simple. They're both still playing!

Clark and the Hawkeyes will take on UConn tonight right after Cardosa and South Carolina play North Carolina State in the Final Four. KWWL reports that a player has 48 hours after playing their final collegiate game to file the paperwork to officially enter the WNBA Draft. Both Clark and Cardosa both hope they have another game in them. The National Championship game on Sunday.

KWWL reports that the WNBA released a list this week of 89 players who are eligible for the draft, including LSU's Angel Reese, who announced on Wednesday she was going pro. Her LSU teammate Hailey Van Lith won't be in the WNBA Draft as she has entered the transfer portal.

The WNBA Draft will be held on April 15th in New York City at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The Indiana Fever holds the #1 pick.
