Edina, MN (KROC-AM News) - Traffic crashes in Minnesota have claimed the lives of at least 5 people since late Friday morning.

The most recent fatality occurred Sunday morning in Edina and may have been triggered by a medical incident. The State Patrol the crash victim was in the car that was traveling east on Highway 62 when it drifted into the median barrier and came to a stop in the left lane.

The driver was a 42-year-old man from Lester Prairie. His name has not been released.

The crash was reported to the State Patrol just before 6 AM about a half of a mile east of the Highway 169/62 interchange.

The State Patrol also responded to a fatal crash Saturday morning in Itasca County. A 37-year-old Michigan man was killed when the SUV he was riding them left the highway in northern Minnesota and vaulted into some trees after crashing into a driveway approach. Michigan woman driving the SUV was taken to a hospital in Duluth with life-threatening injuries.

Three of the traffic deaths occurred Friday morning. The State Patrol says a man and woman died at the scene after the SUV they were in crossed the centerline on a Highway near Minnetrista and collided with a semi-truck. The driver was identified as 40-year-old Darren Tomber of Watertown and his passenger was 32-year-old Shawna Jacobson of Brooten.

The other fatality on Friday morning was reported by the Redwood County Sheriff's Office. A news release indicates a man was found deceased in a vehicle after it crashed into the Minnesota River in an area northwest of Redwood Falls. His name has not been released.
