The incident began around 3:10 Sunday morning when officers responded to the report of a domestic assault involving an armed male breaking into an apartment and threatening to kill the mother of his child.

A news release says the 41-year-old woman, her 19-year-old son and her infant son were not hurt. About 20 minutes later, police were dispatched to a residence about six miles away on a shotspotter activation.

Responding officers, believing the home’s occupants were in danger, announced their presence and forced their way inside, the news release says. Upon moving through the home, police say Evans was believed to have fired a gunshot at officers.

Evans then fled the residence by jumping out a second-story window before he was arrested outside of the home with what was described as minimal force. The news release states officers recovered a gun at the scene and that officers never returned fire.

The 74-year-old woman was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries she’s suspected to have suffered during the alleged assault, the child was evaluated at a hospital and the 23-year-old man reported no injuries.

The news release says the second victims were related to the woman at the first residence who had an order for protection against Evans. Police say Evans had several active arrest warrants related for assault in Steele, Blue Earth and Anoka Counties.

Evans was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries he’s believed to have suffered when he jumped out of the window. He’s set to be booked into the Hennepin County Jail on suspicion of first-degree assault once he’s medically cleared, the news release says.
