SD Governor Kristi Noem Tabbed for Homeland Security Secretary

If President-elect Donald Trump has his way, South Dakota will be getting a new Governor in January.

Word broke overnight that Trump has designated South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem to be his Homeland Security Secretary.

Dakota News Now is reporting that CNN first broke the story from sources close to the selection process.

If confirmed, Noem would head up an agency already slated to have two immigration hardliners, Stephen Miller and Tom Homan, tabbed to fill senior roles.

One of Trump's primary campaign promises was to take a much stricter stance on our nation's borders and the increasing problem of crime in the country.

According to Dakota News Now, in addition to helping control the nation's border crisis, Noem would oversee an agency that manages ICE, FEMA, TSA, the U.S. Secret Service, and Customs and Border Protection.

Alejandro Mayorkas is the nation's current Homeland Security Director under President Joe Biden.

Should Noem be elevated to the post of Secretary of Homeland Security, Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden would succeed her as Governor of South Dakota.

Rhoden, a west-river rancher, served in both the South Dakota House and Senate prior to being chosen by Governor Noem to be her Lieutenant Governor after she was elected Governor in 2018.

Rhoden is married and has four children and four grandchildren.

In the last few years, I've had the opportunity to live in another state after living in Sioux Falls for a decade. Then late last year I moved back to the SooFoo, and I am super happy to have returned.

Sioux Falls has just about everything I like. It's big enough to have lots of opportunities for work and recreation. But, it's also not so big that I feel lost in an urban wasteland.

Being on the western edge of the 'Midwest' and the eastern edge of the 'Western Frontier' we've got a nice balance of the individualistic pioneer spirit and a strong 'We're in this together' attitude.
