Music has and always will have a special place in my life. My love for music, especially pop and rock music, started in the mid-seventies living in Omaha, Nebraska.

As a young teen, I started to listen to the radio back then with a great deal of frequency, (no pun intended by the way) especially "American Top 40" with Casey Kasem every Sunday night.  I always made a concerted effort to listen to Casey Count 'em down from coast to coast each week to find out which songs were rising and falling down the charts.

It's that show and that period that helped to set the course in my life and ultimately inspired me to pursue a radio career.

I think music has a special meaning for almost everyone in South Dakota. I've never encountered someone who didn't have a love and passion for at least one particular genre of music.

Experts will tell us that our love for music spawns out of things like being able to affect our mood and playing off our emotions. There's no doubt that music can improve a person's mood, reduce anxiety, bring people together, and even be the perfect antidote to loneliness and social isolation in some cases.

The bottom line is, that music can help to get you through the good times and the bad times as we journey through life.

A recent survey was conducted by Casinos.com to help determine the most popular music artists in each state right now. They used Google Trends and various search data to help compile their list.

So what are the top five artists that have the average South Dakotan tapping their toes and singing in the shower at the moment? Let's find out.

8 Celebrities You May to Run Into In South Dakota

You may not think of South Dakota as the crossroads of celebrity life. That's a good thing, we kind of like to live under the radar here on the upper plains.

But, living in South Dakota we are just a few degrees away from stardom. Not just because the author of the Little House on the Prairie books is from here. Or because every time Tom Brokaw shows up on TV, someone will say, "You know he's from Yankton."

We may not have as much of a chance at a celebrity sighting in South Dakota as we would in Minneapolis, but there are some famous personalities you may run into in the 605.
