Safest Car Colors for Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota Drivers

When you're looking for a new, or newer, vehicle, you put a lot of thought into what you want in the car feature-wise. But what about the color? All of us have our favorite car colors. 

But believe it or not, the color you choose for your next vehicle could raise or lower your chances of getting into an accident according to a recent Reader's Digest article.

Silver and white are the two most popular car colors, with silver slightly edging out white as the top choice, according to Kelley Blue Book data. Though silver is marginally more popular, research by Monash University's Accident Research Centre has shown that white cars rate higher in safety.

White vehicles were found to be involved in fewer accidents compared to silver ones in the Monash studies. So white cars are considered to be the safest choice color-wise.

This apparently comes down to common sense, lighter colored cars are simply easier to see and thus less prone to be in accidents. 

But what about other favorite colors, like my favorite- - black? 

Black-colored cars rank as the most dangerous in accidents, according to the research. Following black, other hues linked to higher accident risk percentages are grey (11 percent higher risk), silver (10 percent), blue and red (both at 7 percent higher risk).

Although white cars came out on top of this study, yellow, cream, and beige cars also ranked high. In fact, yellow actually beat out white in some studies.

So now you have something else to consider when you start that car shopping journey which can either be a lot of fun, or a nightmare, depending on your point of view.
