Iowa Teen Learns Meaning of ‘Be Careful What You Ask For’

Eli Mielke of Le Mars Iowa came up with what he thought was a fun idea. He'd create an Instagram account and for each follower he got, he'd eat a little peanut butter.

This all began on January 9, 2024, and initially, Eli planned to eat a tablespoon of peanut butter for every 50 followers he got. Well, that was numerous jars of the sticky stuff and over 100,000 followers ago.

At one point the kid promised to cover himself in peanut butter to celebrate that particular social media milestone and as of January 25, the PB slathering had taken place.

His mom says they've spent around $150 on peanut butter to support his weird venture. But it hasn't been without some rewards. The Skippy Peanut Butter people sent him a box of treats and merchandise. And, he says that this has been the talk of his high school and the Le Mars YMCA.

What is next for this adventurous Iowa teen? He indicates he may be taking a break from the peanut butter-eating thing for a while. Since he began this quest for internet fame he's gone through over 7 huge jars of peanut butter and that may not include what he covered his body with.

No one has asked the question that I want to know. How soon would he like a peanut butter sandwich?
