In South Dakota, you know the snow is coming, so you might as well have a little fun with it.

That was exactly the spirit behind the state's 'Name the Snow Plow' contest when it was created back in 2019.

The idea was to divide the state into 12 regions and let the creative juices flow to come up with the most entertaining names for the plows that the Department of Transportation will be utilizing to keep the highways clear all winter long.

The 2024 results are in.

After considering more than 650 entries, SD DOT employees have picked the top names from each region:

  • Aberdeen Area: Snow Boss
  • Belle Fourche Area: Not My First Snowdeo
  • Custer Area: Snow-key the Bear
  • Huron Area: Saltosaurus Rex
  • Mitchell Area: Plow Bunyan
  • Mobridge Area: Snow Crusher
  • Pierre Area: Blade of Glory
  • Rapid City Area: Scoop! There It Is!
  • Sioux Falls Area: South-Da-Snow-Ta
  • Watertown Area: Frostimus Prime
  • Winner Area: Clearapathera
  • Yankton Area: Salt, Rattle, & Roll
