You know that hunting season is down the hall and right around the corner once October arrives.

Let me guess, your living room is starting to look like a Cabela's catalog exploded in it?

Better brace yourself, ladies, it’s almost that magical time of year when your significant other disappears into the wild, decked out in blaze orange, whispering sweet nothings to a plastic duck, or bonding with buddies in a deer stand that doubles as a grown man's treehouse.

While your man's off living his Outdoor Channel fantasy, chasing the elusive South Dakota ring-necked, or out in the middle of nowhere attempting to bag a buck, downtown Sioux Falls has a little something for you and your fellow Hunting Widows.

It’s the fabulous, the legendary, "Hunting Widows Weekend!"

Mark your calendars for: Friday, October 17, to Sunday, October 19.
No license, camouflage vest, or scent-masking spray required.

Instead of trudging through cornfields, you'll be strolling through boutiques. Instead of dragging a deer carcass, you'll be dragging shopping bags.

Here’s a sneak peek of what’s in store during Hunting Widows Weekend:

  • Shopping & Deals Galore at the 8th & Railroad retailers, perfect for finding that sweater that says, “I didn’t sit in the woods for five hours to get nothing.”
  • Great Outdoor Store is turning up the heat (and the chill) with a cold plunge and sauna experience. You know, to help you prepare for the trauma of hearing about your partner’s “epic” near-miss with a 10-pointer.
  • Fashion Show on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Phillips Avenue boutiques between 11th and 12th. Remember, camo isn’t the only fall trend.
  • 605 Running Company is hosting a morning run, just in case your idea of cardio isn’t power lifting mimosas.
  • And if you really want to level up your widow game, Buffalo Ridge Resort & Spa is offering a luxurious weekend getaway. Nothing says "I support your hobby" like checking into a spa the second he checks into the woods.

Downtown Sioux Falls always brings the fun, but Hunting Widows Weekend might just be the most entertaining time you’ll have, outside of listening to your significant other attempt to explain the difference between a rifle and a shotgun.

17 Animals You Can Hunt All Year in South Dakota

South Dakota loves to hunt. It's not only one of the state's most popular pastimes, but it's also big business. Especially South Dakota's famous Pheasant season.

There are seasons for hunting deer, antelope, turkey, and even bison. Plenty of opportunities to get that freezer in the garage stocked up.

The South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Department is the place to go for info about hunting licenses and specific rules and regulations for hunting in South Dakota.

Hunting most game in South Dakota is restricted to specific hunting seasons. Like deer and pheasant seasons in the fall.

But there are also animals you can hunt year-round in South Dakota.

There are still some rules to follow, like where exactly you can hunt. South Dakota has millions of acres of public and private land to hunt on. And you'll still need a hunting license.

So, always check with the South Dakota Game, Fish, and Parks Department for the latest information and regulations.
