Hungry Hearts Makes Back-to-School a Little Easier for Local Kids
Back-to-School Support Is Coming Soon!
The countdown to a new school year is on, and for some Sioux Falls families, getting everything on the back-to-school list can be a challenge.
That’s where local organization Hungry Hearts is hoping to help.

Dakota News Now is reporting that the organization will host an End-of-Summer, Back-to-School Party next Saturday, August 22, specifically for middle school students. The free event will give students a chance to pick up some of the supplies they need for the school year while enjoying a little end-of-summer fun.
Supplies and Shoes: Essential Resources for Students
Students will receive free backpacks and school supplies, along with a limited number of pairs of shoes. The child receiving the shoes must be present, and the shoes must fit in order to take them.
There will also be a free meal of a hamburger or hot dog and fries from Roscoe's Kitchen while supplies last.
There will be plenty of fun going on in addition to the free school supplies giveaway, including a rock wall to climb, a dunk tank, music by DJ AP, and a 360 Photo Booth.
Hungry Hearts leadership says making sure kids have the things they need to succeed is at the heart of the event.
A Personal Touch: The Impact of Community Support
Vice President Jesse Severson knows firsthand how meaningful that kind of help can be. He said, “We grew up in this city, this town, as those kids that needed that stuff - it is very gratifying to see the faces of these kids, knowing that they know that someone cares.”

And that, he says, is really what the event is all about.
“They want to know that somebody is out here wishing them well, to know that somebody is here to make sure that they succeed,” Severson said.
The Hungry Hearts End-of-Summer, Back-to-School Party will be held Saturday, August 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Avera Downtown Parking Lot (The Gold Building), 212 East 11th Street in Sioux Falls.
With school just around the corner, it’s a chance for local kids to get some of the supplies they need—and a reminder that their community is rooting for them.
