Winter Returns To South Dakota For Christmas

A large system is moving over the center of the country this Chrismas Eve. It's been raining in Sioux Falls since Friday, and the snow has been falling out west for as long.

Now, the National Weaher Service in Sioux Falls has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sioux Falls area, in effect from 6:00 AM Monday (12/25) until 6:00 AM Tuesday (12/26).

What is a Winter Weather Advisory?

A Winter Weather Advisory will be issued for any amount of freezing rain, or when 2 to 4 inches of snow (alone or in combination with sleet and freezing rain), is expected to cause a significant inconvenience, but not serious enough to warrant a warning - NWS

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM MONDAY TO 6 AM CST
TUESDAY...

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations of
  2 to 6 inches and ice accumulations of one tenth to two tenths
  of an inch. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph.

* WHERE...Portions of northwest and west central Iowa, southwest
  Minnesota, northeast Nebraska and east central and southeast
  South Dakota.

* WHEN...From 6 AM Monday to 6 AM CST Tuesday.

* IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. Patchy blowing
  snow could significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous
  conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Winter Storm Warining and a Blizzard Warning are in effect for parts of south dakota west of SIoux Falls. Traval, especially on Interstate 90 in SOuth Dakota, could be deficult and dangerious.
