With South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden, the South Dakota Highway Patrol released a photo of a record drug seizure of approximately 207 lbs of crystal meth found in a car being driven by a 42-year-old male.

This crazy amount of meth is worth a whopping $12 million!
Our news partners at Dakota News Now have been following this massive drug arrest. Officials say the driver of the vehicle "was identified as a non-citizen and is currently in immigration proceedings." Initially, the driver was stopped by South Dakota Highway Patrol for a speeding violation. The trooper noticed that something seemed off with the driver. So the trooper called for back-up, including the loyal police K-9 unit.
The driver exhibited behaviors consistent with criminal activity. During the stop, a police service dog alerted the trooper to the presence of an odor it is trained to detect. A search of the vehicle then yielded 207.24 pounds of crystal methamphetamine, valued at approximately $12 million. The vehicle was seized as part of the investigation.
The driver is charged with the following:
- Felony Distribution/Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance II;
- Felony Possession of a Controlled Drug/Substance Schedule II; and
- Misdemeanor Possession or use of Drug Paraphernalia.
