Did you hear about the "blizzards" taking over the Sioux Empire on Thursday, July 25th? Specifically, one South Dakota town couldn't control the power of the blizzards. Luckily, these wild blizzards benefited local kiddos.

The Annual Miracle Treat Day is all about helping local kids fight cancer as well as providing necessary assistance for their families.  These sweet blizzards alone help the kids and families of the Sanford Children's Miracle Network with needs such as specialized equipment, Child Life and Spiritual Care programs, and lodging expenses.

Historically, the Dairy Queen establishment in Madison has always sold the most blizzards in South Dakota on Miracle Treat Day. This year is no exception. The Madison Dairy Queen sold over 30,000 blizzards on Miracle Treat Day

The Madison Dairy Queen shared the exciting news on its Facebook page with its ice cream lovers! The grand total for the day was 32,820 blizzards! Last year, this single Dairy Queen in South Dakota sold 32,587 blizzards. So that means they broke last year's total! Wow! Oh...and one more fun fact: The Madison Dairy Queen has sold well-over 550,000 blizzards since Miracle Treat Day began in 2006. Madison residents sure do have a major sweet tooth!

Helping out these awesome kids during the annual Miracle Treat Day is always easy and delicious. This is just one of many great ways to support the Sanford Children's Miracle Network. Calories don't count when you're helping kids! Thank you for eating delicious ice cream for the kids!

Don't forget! Our annual Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon is right around the corner. The two-day event begins on Thursday, September 26th and continues through Friday, September 27th. All proceeds from the Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon directly support the local kiddos and their families from the Sanford Children's Miracle Network.

35 Movies That Take Place in South Dakota

When it comes to South Dakota and Hollywood, we've seen our fair share of films that have used our state as the backdrop for a number of productions over the years. They may not have always filmed here, but movie folk love to set stories here.

We're all familiar with the blockbusters like 1990's Dances With Wolves, 1959's North By Northwest, and more recently, 2007's National Treasure: Book of Secrets. But our state's life on the big screen goes back nearly 100 years.

According to IMDb, it all started with Courtin' Wildcats, a 1929 film which, like so many of the 29 films on this list, is a Western set in the time before South Dakota became a state in 1889.
