Late Night TV Hosts Roast South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem

Normally when South Dakota makes national headlines, it's pretty exciting for our state. But lately, South Dakota has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is about to release her new book "No Going Back: The Truth on What's Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Forward." This book isn't on the shelves yet and it's already causing controversy.

CAUTION: Story might be sensitive to some readers

Without going into extreme details, Governor Noem shared a story about her decision to put down her 14-month-old wirehair pointer named Cricket. This storyline in her book has caused a lot of reactions and disappointment from dog owners across the nation, including South Dakota residents.

No surprise after this excerpt was released, late-night television hosts Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert, and Jimmy Kimmel had a field day. They all took the opportunity to roast Kristi Noem.

Let's start with Stephen Colbert. As soon as he shared the headline, the sound of boos roared from the crowd.

Stephen Colbert did his best to calm the audience and compared Noem's book to a Stephen King novel:

This reminds me of Stephen King's first draft of  'Cujo.' The book 'Snuggles.' It's worth it point out that no one made Noem confess.

Seth Meyers took his chance to call out Governor Noem. He called this one of the "weirdest" stories to date.

Seth Meyers said sharing this story was a level of psycho he didn't know existed.

It's one thing to kill a dog named Cricket. It's another to brag about it in a book. What's the book called, 'I Did It?' She thought this would make her look cool. What's going on does she think cats can vote?

Jimmy Fallon also shared his thoughts on the story. He was speechless.

He thought Kristi Noem was trying to portray a character in a book and gave thoughts on another book she should write.

When you're trying to win over voters, I'm not sure being a bad guy in a 'John Wick' movie is the best way to go.

And finally, Jimmy Kimmel had his say about Governor Noem.

Very similar to Jimmy Fallon, he also mentioned that Kristi Noem is like a character and said she didn't have to do anything about Cricket. Oh...and he also produced a new TV advertisement for South Dakota.

I don't know how big her staff is, but I'm guessing she has at least a dozen people working for her. Probably more. Not one of those dozen or dozen of people raise their hands and say, 'Governor, do you think maybe not a great idea to share that story about shooting a whole petting zoo at your house? Maybe we save that for the next book.' This is a crazy person

All I'll say is this: It's not a great week for South Dakota...
