A First-Of-Its-Kind Minnesota Sports Bar Dedicated To Women’s Sports Sets Opening Date

Late last year, we shared that a brand new, first-of-its-kind sports bar was making plans to open in Minnesota. While the concept is not completely brand new around the country, this bar that will feature only women's athletic programming will be a first in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

The new establishment, called "A Bar of Their Own", is the culmination of the dreams, hard work, and subsequent fundraising efforts of Jillian Hiscock, who is the owner of the new establishment. Jillian and her partner launched a crowdfunding campaign in September of last year, raising the money they needed to make their dream a reality.

Jillian shared with Twin Cities media outlets that the plan was to open the new sports bar sometime before the Women's Big Ten Basketball Tournament, which is March 6-10, 2024 in Minneapolis. With that date quickly approaching, the owners have shared an update.

In a social media post shared by the bar on February 23, the owners shared that they are planning on opening - ahead of schedule!

They shared that their liquor license was issued, making it the final hurdle they needed to clear before opening. To celebrate, they shared that they will hold a grand opening weekend celebration starting at noon on Friday, March 1.

What will A Bar of Their Own offer?

The Eater reports that the owners have been working on getting the streaming rights for the bar to show all of the platforms that provide the games they want to show, as not all of the games they want to show are available on mainstream broadcast/cable/satellite channels. This includes the Minnesota Vixen football team and will also likely include the brand-new women's professional hockey team starting up in Minnesota.

In addition to a lot of options for women's sports on the bar's TVs, they will provide expected bar food like burgers and sandwiches as well as gluten-free and true vegan options "Making sure that a vegan’s only option isn’t taking everything off of a salad and getting left with a bowl of lettuce”.

They will also offer buffalo wings that will pay homage to the location A Bar of Their Own occupies.

Where is A Bar of Their Own be located?

As we reported late last year, they will be located at 2207 Franklin Avenue E in Minneapolis. This is the space that was previously home to Tracy's Saloon & Eatery, which closed after 44 years in business in that location. The buffalo wings I mentioned above? A Bar of Their Own's owners say that the previous owner sold the recipe, carrying on a bit of a tradition of the location.
