Deputy Sheriff Struck by Stolen Car in Sioux Falls
A stolen car, drugs and an injured officer highlighted a police chase in Sioux Falls Tuesday afternoon.
According to a press release from Sioux Falls Police Officer Sam Clemens, the incident began around 2:00 PM. Officers detected a stolen 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix at West 10th and South Lincoln Avenue.
The stolen car was eventually stopped in traffic when Minnehaha County Deputies with the Warrant Task Force driving in an unmarked vehicle confronted the two people. A deputy was struck and injured during the altercation as the stolen car drove off.
Sioux Falls Police eventually tracked down the stolen car as it drove east, staying within city limits. Fifteen minutes after the car was first observed, the driver and passenger were arrested as the car came to a stop near East Side Lutheran Church which is adjacent to 10th and Cliff.
Police found several baggies with methamphetamine residue on the man who was identified as 24-year old Willard Charles Makes Room For Them III, of Sioux Falls. He was charged with Aggravated Assault on Law Enforcement, Aggravated Eluding, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, and Possession of Controlled Substances.
The woman who was arrested was 26-year old transient named Angeline Frances Squirrel Coat who faces charges of Aggravated Eluding and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
After being hit by the stolen car, the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Deputy suffered just minor injuries.
