A South Dakota man is facing the possibility of life behind bars after being convicted of killing three people.

Jay Ostrem, 65, was found guilty Friday (March 20) on three counts of First-Degree Murder in the May 27, 2024, shootings of Paul Wyland Frankus, Zachary Frankus, and Timothy Richmond, at a residence in Centerville.

The incident was in response to an alleged sexual assault against Ostrem's wife by one of the shooting victims.

Ostrem, the former mayor of Centerville, faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sentencing is scheduled for May 14th.

South Dakota’s Division of Criminal Investigation led the investigation. The case was prosecuted by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office and the Turner County State’s Office.
