Unfortunately, as long as people have money there will always be scumbags out there with nothing better to do than try to separate those fine folks from their hard-earned cash.

We saw it again in Sioux Falls this week when a woman was scammed out of $2,500 by someone posing as a Minnehaha County Sheriff's Deputy.

And while those sorts of incidents appear to be on the rise, there is one scam that isn't gaining any real traction in South Dakota.

Newsweek is reporting that residents of the Mount Rushmore State are least likely to be a victim of an auto-related scam.

According to numbers from BuyAutoInsurance.com, the Census Bureau, and the Federal Trade Commission, we have the lowest rate of auto-related cases per 1,000 residents in America.

There were only 14 reports per 1,000 residents and just 124 reports total in all of 2021.
