South Dakota State University is moving forward with its decision to have Hobo Day on Halloween in 2020.

According to KSFY, SDSU released a statement saying the school has received 'considerable input' both negative and positive regarding the decision.

Several Brookings community members have voiced concerns over Hobo Day on Halloween.  They were particularly worried about house parties and a large number of wandering revelers, many of whom have been drinking.

KSFY reports that university officials say the school faces a number of obstacles when it comes to scheduling.  Football schedules are set well in advance.  SDSU requested that the Missouri Valley Football Conference change the Oct. 31 date for the game against Western Illinois, but MVFC officials said it would cause too many scheduling conflicts.

SDSU officials say they will work with community leaders to ensure safety during the event.
