A Look at Pink Floyd’s ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ Sioux Falls Event
For more than 50 years now Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon has set the standard for staying power as the most iconic album in music history.
Sometime in 2024, the band's eighth studio album will surpass 1,000 weeks on the Billboard Album Chart, marking more than 19 years of time in the Top 200; a feat that will likely never be duplicated.
It's quite unlikely that you haven't heard some, or all, of this legendary 10-song masterpiece since it was first released on March 1, 1973, but now there's a whole new way to experience it in Sioux Falls.
For the next two weekends, the Dark Side of the Moon Official Planetarium Show is playing inside the Wells Fargo CineDome and Sweetman Planetarium at the Washington Pavilion.
The 42-minute experience has been making its way around the world in celebration of the album's 50th anniversary last year.
It's a collaborative effort between NSC Creative and longtime Pink Floyd creative collaborator Aubrey Powell from Hipgnosis.
Through the use of modern technology, the show offers breathtaking views of the solar system and beyond, played out in surround sound with each song on the album taking on a different theme.

You can catch the show over the next two weekends at the Pavilion with 6:00 PM and 7:30 PM screenings, Friday and Saturday, July 19-20 and July 26-27.
$10 (plus taxes and fees)
The Dark Side of the Moon was recorded at the legendary EMI Abbey Road Studios in London between May of 1972 and February of 1973.
It eventually topped the charts in the United States and three other countries. It has sold more than 45 million copies, making it the fourth best-selling record of all-time behind Michael Jackson's Thriller (70 million), AC/DC's Back in Black (50 million), and The Bodyguard Soundtrack (47 million).
The popularity of the album shows no signs of slowing down. Earlier this year, sales of The Dark Side of the Moon spiked by more than 300 percent around the time of Record Store Day in April.
