You can all stop clutching your pearls: Seth MacFarlane has announced that he will not be returning to host the Oscars next year, but he does have a rather hilarious replacement in mind.
At this year Oscars, Seth MacFarlane caused quite a controversy as he hosted the ceremony with a number of risque bits and jokes (most notably the "We Saw Your Boobs" song from the opening monologues) but that was exactly what Oscar producers hoped MacFarlane would bring to the normally staid production. The 'Family Guy' creator previously said he has no interest in returning, the producers seemed to have liked the controversy (and the ratings that went with it) and MacFarlane has officially been invited to return to host the 2014 Oscars.
Only a day after Seth MacFarlane said, in no uncertain terms, that he would not be returning to the Oscars after his much-criticized stint as host, we're slapped with the news that the ideal choice to replace him, Tina Fey, won't be taking the stage either.
There's been no shortage of controversy following the 2013 Oscars, most of it dealing with host Seth MacFarlane's particular brand of comedy, which is either hilariously crude or mean-spirited and misogynistic, depending on who you ask. But with ratings higher than last year's ceremony (40.3 million people tuned in to watch 'Argo' win Best Picture), you'd wonder if the Academy would decide that further outcry was worth it and ask the 'Family Guy' creator back for a second time. However, MacFarlane himself preemptively answered that question on Twitter.
After last year's Academy Award ceremonies, Jimmy Kimmel introduced us to 'Movie: The Movie,' a faux film trailer now holding over 20 million views. And last night, with the 2013 ceremonies freshly in our rearview, the host did it again with 'Movie: The Movie: 2V.'
Last year after the Oscars 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' premiere the fake trailer for the fake movie 'Movie: The Movie' that featured just about every actor in Hollywood. This year Jimmy is back with the sequel no one was asking for with 'Movie: The Movie: V2' with another all-star cast.
'Argo' was named Best Picture at the 2013 Oscars this Sunday.
Daniel Day-Lewis took home the Best Actor trophy at the 2013 Oscars for his portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in Steven Spielberg's 'Lincoln.'
Jennifer Lawrence won Best Actress at the 2013 Oscars for her portrayal of a widow with emotional problems in 'Silver Linings Playbook.'
Everyone saw it coming, but that doesn't make it any less thrilling: Anne Hathaway won Best Supporting Actress at the 2013 Oscars for her heartbreaking work in Tom Hooper's 'Les Miserables.'
