Brennan Rock & Roll Academy Celebrates One Year Anniversary with Concert from Hairball, Kids Bands Wednesday
One year ago the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy in Sioux Falls opened their doors to Boys & Girls Club kids to begin taking music lessons from area musicians and learning the ABC's of Rock. Wednesday, the Academy threw a birthday bash featuring what else, but rock and roll!
Classic rock cover band monsters Hairball put on a show for Academy staff, donors and Boys & Girls Club kids and their families, but not before the kids got to show off what they've been learning over the past year!
Last fall, a few of the kids got a chance to perform with Slash when he made a special stop in Sioux Falls for the Academy's first student concert. The Academy has also played host to KISS, Alice Cooper, Dee Snider, Tom Keifer, Stephen Pearcy, Rickey Medlocke of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mike Reno of Loverboy and many more in its first year.
Chuck Brennan, the founder of the Academy and CEO of Dollar Loan Center said that “he could not be happier with the success of the academy over the past year and cannot wait to see what this year brings. Even though we just opened the doors a year ago, the academy is providing over 700 free music lessons per month.”
Brennan added “It has been an incredible experience to witness so many people pull together in support of the children and the academy. From legendary rock stars to companies across the country and even individuals, they all helped contribute to the success thus far and I can’t thank them enough.”
Next up for the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy students? Playing the big stage at RibFest at the WH Lyon Fairgrounds on June 1!
Five bands of Academy students played the birthday bash Wednesday night and did songs ranging from Imagine Dragons and Taylor Swift to Jefferson Airplane and Led Zeppelin.
The volunteer instructors at the academy are amazing and the fact that these kids are able to take these lessons through the Boys & Girls Clubs $25 annual membership is incredible.
