An all-star lineup of rock musicians came to Sioux Falls Thursday night (March 28) to headline grand opening week of the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy for the Boys & Girls Clubs.

Alice Cooper (pictured) was just one of the rock & roll hall of fame members that came in, as he was joined by Robby Krieger of the Doors! I asked Alice how that came about and he said that his band used to open for the Doors back in 1968:

Alice and his wife Sheryl started the Solid Rock Foundation in Phoenix several years ago and it's the inspiration behind our academy as Alice and founder Chuck Brennan are old friends. Alice says that their school in Phoenix has made life-altering changes in kids lives there:

Alice stressed the importance of places like the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy and Solid Rock Foundation with funding being cut for music and art education in public schools:

With all the rock stars and comedy all-stars that have been in Sioux Falls this week, it's easy to lose sight of why it's here: the kids. The Brennan Rock & Roll Academy is for the Boys & Girls Club kids. Academy ambassador Kory Van Sickle of Kory & The Fireflies made sure to highlight that fact as he had two Girls Club members join the band on stage Thursday night to sing back up on one of their songs.

The All-Star festivities continued with Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer of KISS!

Former Skid Row singer Sebastian Bach really needs to come out of his shell! Kidding! Bach was in great voice Thursday night and proudly announced to the packed house that he is clean and sober and that Alice Cooper is one of his inspirations for doing so. I don't know if the smile has left his face yet after sharing the stage with so many rock legends.

The loudest ovation of the night was definitely reserved for the top-billed Alice Cooper who didn't disappoint. After Singer and Thayer led the band through KISS hits Black Diamond and Shout It Out Loud, Cooper led the band through some of his hits: No More Mr. Nice Guy, Under My Wheels, Be My Lover, and 18.

One of the highlights (among MANY) for me was standing three feet away from another legend: Robby Krieger of the Doors! Krieger was soft spoken but can still play the guitar and looked to have a great time in Sioux Falls Thursday night.

An added bonus to the evening came from soundcheck in the afternoon as Krieger and Bach worked up a cover of the Doors classic Crystal Ship.

With Krieger, the band ripped through Doors classics Back Door Man and Break on Through before covering what Cooper called 'the greatest bar song ever', The Rolling Stones Brown Sugar.

Everyone joined in for the final three ripping songs of the evening: Alice Cooper's School's Out, Skid Row's Youth Gone Wild, and the KISS anthem Rock and Roll All Night.

Just an amazing night at the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy in Sioux Falls, SD for the Boys & Girls Clubs.

An open house for the public is today (Friday March 29) with regional bands ZZ3, Rock n Roll Damnation, Ramrod Hamster, Neo Johnsons and ORYX performing.

Saturday (March 30) will wrap up the week with midwest rockers Hairball joined by Stephen Pearcy of Ratt and Vince Neil of Motley Crue, who called last night to let Brennan know that he was bringing his neighbor to the show Saturday: actor Nicolas Cage.
