Learning another language can be good for the brain. Research shows that it can boost mental agility and improve cognitive skills. Plus it's always fun to learn a new skill to show off. Now you can learn a something new and connect to South Dakota's historical heritage.

The Downtown Library in Sioux Falls is hosting a free Lakota language class. It'll be taught by Tim Easter who teaches Lakota language and culture at Washington High School.

The four-part series will meet monthly on Sunday afternoons at the library. Anyone is welcome, but registration is required at: siouxlandlib.org.

Here's the class schedule:

• Sunday, October 8, 2 to 3 p.m.
• Sunday, November 12, 2 to 3 p.m.
• Sunday, December 10, 2 to 3 p.m.
• Sunday, January 14, 2 to 3 p.m.

• A Great Fiction, Nonfiction Book for South Dakota, with a Native American Focus
