Thursday night's prayer service at First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls drew and estimated 600 people who wanted to honor the former Senator and 1972 Democratic Presidential candidate George McGovern, who passed away Sunday at the age of 90.

Vice President Joe Biden was one of six featured speakers to eulogize McGovern, taking time away from the campaign trail. One of McGovern's legacies was his opposition to the Vietnam War which polarized America. Biden says it was that position that propelled him into politics.

McGovern is widely considered to be the father of the South Dakota Democratic Party and credited with changing the party on the national stage.

McGovern's funeral is Friday afternoon at 1pm at the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls.
