‘The Hateful Eight’ Trailer: Quentin Tarantino’s Latest, Wanted Dead or Alive
I can’t blame anyone who’s got Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the top of their list of most anticipated movies of the fall and winter. But for me, it’s all about The Hateful Eight.
Appropriately, it’s the eighth film from writer/director Quentin Tarantino. It’s his second Western in a row after the awesome Django Unchained. And it has an absolutely incredible cast, including Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Tim Roth, Demian Bichir, Michael Madsen, Walton Goggins, and Bruce Dern. Put that all together, and you’ve got one helluva exciting production.
Based on this first full trailer, you’ve also got Tarantino going back to his roots in a way. The Hateful Eight definitely looks like Tarantino reworking some of his ideas from his very first film, Reservoir Dogs. True, the setting is the Old West this time instead of modern Los Angeles. But the claustrophobic atmosphere, the fact that one of the members of this group is not who he claims to be, and the seeds of betrayal and horrific violence all evoke QT’s amazing debut feature.
Here’s the official (albeit brief) plot synopsis:
In post-Civil War Wyoming, bounty hunters try to find shelter during a blizzard but get involved in a plot of betrayal and deception. Will they survive?
The Hateful Eight opens on Christmas Day in “glorious 70mm.” I will be there.
