Coming from a family who gets attached to furniture, and almost any and everything else, basement storage of items hasn't been a choice, it's been a way of life.

Those items included costume jewelry, kitschy items like a gold-plated bunny bank, (I found it at a jewelry store for the whopping price of $10, which back then I had saved for quite a while) and books, lots and lots of books!

And don't even get me started on the stuff my sisters and I collect! So, needless to say, when I came across the information in a Reader's Digest article on things you should keep out of your basement my concern level was raised.

Here are 10 items you should never store in your basement due in a large part to the fact that they draw insects and vermin to them, end up smelling awful, or disintegrate due to moisture.
