South Dakota Teen is New World Record Holder
The 2024 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records chronicles a feat that a South Dakotan has been working on for the last 15 years.
17-year-old Reuben Looks Twice Jr. from Rapid City now sports the world's longest hair on a male teenager.
It measures 5 feet, 3.3 inches long.
Reuben’s parents originally decided to let his hair grow because he was scared of the electric clippers.
He hasn’t had his hair cut since he was two years old.
As he got older, he says he continued to let his hair grow due to his Lakota tradition.
These days, he spends about 20 minutes washing it, another hour drying it, and an additional ten minutes untangling, brushing, and braiding it.
Reuben's hair has a lot of growing to do if it is going to eclipse the record for the longest hair on an adult man, which has been the standard since 1949 when the head of a monastery in India grew his hair to 26 feet in length.
The longest hair on a teenager is 6 feet, 6 inches) a girl in India who has since cut her hair and donated it to a museum.
