Sioux Falls Traffic Sting Nets Big Numbers
While a lot of us were relaxing over the recent Memorial Day Weekend, more than a dozen officers from a trio of law enforcement groups were busy cracking down on speeding and reckless driving in Sioux Falls.
'Operation Grover' was a large-scale traffic enforcement saturation focused on excessive speeding and exhibition driving throughout the city.
The Sioux Falls Police Department, South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office all took part in the operation, which ran from 7:00 PM to 3:00 AM from late Friday (May 26) into early Saturday (May 27).
During that eight-hour time frame, 18 law enforcement officers issued 90 citations in all.
Of those 90, more than half (47) were for speeding, including five that were for speeds of 25 miles per hour or more over the posted limit.
Five drivers were ticketed for exhibition driving.
Five others were arrested for driving under the influence.
14 citations were issued for not wearing seatbelts.
