Sioux Falls Regional Airport will shut down today at 2 p.m. so that more than 100 crew members can begin reconstructing the runway intersection.

It’s going to take more than 75 trucks, excavators, bulldozers, skid loaders and compactors to get the $8 million job done.
This is the first weekend closure. Operations will resume at 8 p.m. Monday. The airport also will close to commercial traffic Aug. 24-27 and two weekends in September so crews can work 24-hour shifts to complete the work.

Here's a short animated video to explain the construction project.
