Sioux Falls Homeless Children Rely on The Banquet
How many homeless kids is too many? KSFY TV is reporting that there are 438 students in the Sioux Falls School District that are homeless.
A child without a home. That's a bitter pill to swallow.
KSFY TV says 50% of that number are receiving free or reduced meals. Places like The Banquet are seeing similar increases.
The report also finds The Banquet West has seen an 18% increase in children.
“They feel comfortable bringing their kids here. We like to have activities for the kids to do -- coloring tables or craft projects,” said volunteer Rebecca Wanner.
According to the Minnehaha County Homeless Advisory Board every day, 106,646 people in South Dakota are at risk of going hungry and 68% must choose between paying for food or utilities.
The Banquet West serves the northwest Sioux Falls population. In the past few months, there’s been an uptick in children.
