The three-week closure of a portion of the bike/recreational trail in Sioux Falls has been pushed back.

One day after announcing the temporary closure of the trail from West 49th Street to the Sertoma Trail Bridge, the City now says the  project has been put on hold:

UPDATE: The recreational trail closure announced for June 19, 2025 has been postponed. The trail remains open in currently accessible sections. A revised notice will be issued when detour routes are available and new closures take effect

Here is the original story:

Whether you call it the Sioux Falls Bike Trail or the Recreational Trail, one thing is certain: later this month, part of it will be closed for three weeks.

Where is the closure?

City officials say that beginning Thursday (June 19), construction will begin along the east side of the Big Sioux River from West 49th Street to the Sertoma Trail Bridge. The trail will be closed to traffic along this section of the trail for reconstruction.

A detour will be provided for this phase along the west bank of the river, utilizing the West 41st Street and Sertoma Trail bridges.

Timeline

Weather permitting, this phase of the project is anticipated to be completed within three weeks.
