Senior Couple Forced to Live in Different Nursing Homes Cry Their Eyes Out
This photo is going to get to you.
A Canadian woman named Ashley Bartyik posted a photo of her grandparents crying because they've been ordered to live in separate nursing homes due to the different health issues they're battling, as well as a lack of available beds.
As the post says, "After 62 years together in marriage they have been separated for 8 months due to backlogs and delays by our health care system, whom have the power to have my grandpa moved to the same care facility as my grandmother."
The couple has been identified as Wolfram and Anita Gottschalk. Wolfram, 83, and Anita, 81, have been married for 62 years, but now reside a half-hour apart in British Columbia.
Bartyik says Wolfram has been placed on a waiting list to move into the same home as Anita.
Bartyik also says she shared the photo on Facebook because "“I wanted the world to see what we see every two days when we bring my grandmother to see my grandfather – the raw emotion, the sadness, the anger."
She also claims the local health office tasked with dealing with the matter has not contacted her or her family, although that group says it meeting relatives last week and is currently speaking them.
