South Dakota Plane Crash Claims Nine Lives
After celebrating the Thanksgiving holiday nine people, including two children, were killed in a plane crash near Chamberlain, South Dakota. 12 people were on board the single-engine plane.
KSFY TV is reporting that the crash took nine lives, including businessmen Jim and Kirk Hansen, the pilot, 2 young children, and four other males. Three survived the crash and are being treated in area hospitals.
The National Transportation Safety Board says the plane crashed shortly after takeoff from the Chamberlain Municipal Airport around 12:30 p.m. in a nearby farm field.
Speaking with spokesman Peter Knudson with the National Transportation Safety Board he tells KSFY News that local officials near Chamberlain are still investigating the crash and gathering information.
Chamberlain and central south-central South Dakota were under a winter storm warning at the time of the crash.
