Patti Smith spent her Thanksgiving helping to lift the spirits of the victims of Hurricane Sandy who live in the Rockaways section of Queens, New York, which is where she just purchased a seaside bungalow weeks before the storm. She joined her neighbors in a relief tent and sang some songs, including "Because the Night," "Grateful” and “My Blakean Year.”

“I was in Spain [when the storm hit]," says Patti. "I had jobs to do, but every day, I watched the news, I said prayers for you all, I thought of you, I talked about you in every country I was in, I dedicated songs to you all... I can’t wait to finish my tour ... and join you in rebuilding.”

She bought her home there on October 4th after going there for the first time on Memorial Day. “I got me a little house and one day I’ll make it habitable,” she says. But she was one of the luckier ones as her home was not damaged. Patti is on the road with Neil Young with shows Monday in Boston and back in New York Tuesday at Madison Square Garden.
