Good Friday means different things to different people.

For millions, it's a holy day, the day Jesus Christ was crucified. For millions of others, it's a day off, a three day weekend, a day of no school for the kids.

But one Good Friday turned into a bad Friday, a tragic Friday, a Friday when crowds gathered and tears were shed.

The President of the United States had been shot.

This particular Good Friday was not only a day of Christian reflection and prayer, it was also supposed to be a day of celebration, a day of joy, a day of hope for the future.

The war was over. The union was saved. Rejoice!

But with a single gunshot in a crowded theater, it all seemed shattered.

It was Good Friday, April 14, 1865. At 10:13 P.M. the President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, was shot in the head by one of the most famous actor's in America, John Wilkes Booth.

The President never regained consciousness. At 7:22 A.M. the next morning, the day before Easter, Abraham Lincoln breathed his last. The Civil War had ended less than one week before.
