Metallica Releases Concert DVD on New Label

Metallica released its Quebec Magnetic Blu-ray/DVD on Monday (December 10th), marking the first product issued by the band on its own label, Blackened Recordings. The disc merges together footage from two shows the band did in Quebec City in the fall of 2009 as part of its World Magnetic Tour. Fans were allowed to vote for the DVD's track listing, with 18 songs compiled for the concert and an additional eight bonus songs included on the disc.

Bassist Robert Trujillo told us that he doesn't especially like to watch himself perform on DVD: "It's funny, with me I never -- you know, I may watch this one time or something. It's like, (Metallica's 2004 documentary) Some Kind Of Monster -- I saw it one time, just to see if everything's okay, and then I won't watch it. But maybe 15 years later I'll watch it. It's just because I'll watch it and I'll start critiquing myself and go, 'Dude, you played a wrong note' or 'I could have done this better,' whatever. I'm the harshest critic of myself."

In conjunction with the launch of Blackened, Metallica announced two weeks ago that the band had regained control of all the masters of the band's entire catalog of audio and video recordings, as per its now-expired 1994 contract with the Warner Music Group.
Metallica is also working on a 3D feature film for release next summer, as well as a new studio album that should surface in early 2014.
