Master Blues Guitarist to Sioux Falls Saturday
Kelly Richey is a master Blues guitarist, who has been touring as a pro nationally and internationally since her teens. Richey is one of the hardest-working musicians out there, to date, logging an astounding 800,000 miles and 3,700 shows in her career. She fronts her blistering power trio The Kelly Richey Band, featuring Freekbass and Jyn Yates, with a rock-solid poise and assurance that is unmistakable. Her fret board prowess and muscular guitar chops showcase the blood, sweat, and tears of Richey’s unremitting 35-year career.
Richey attacks the guitar like few other female players do. Her influences are evident in her style and playing from Jimi Hendrix to Led Zeppelin to Stevie Ray Vaughan. Richey is simply one of the best guitarists I've seen, male OR female.
Her rhythm section absolutely kills it as well, from drummer Jyn Yates, who came into the auditions knowing nothing of Richey's music, but her powerful drumming and impeccable timing won her the job. She joins Chris Sherman on bass, better known in professional circles simply as "Freekbass", and a freak on the bass he is! When I met him last spring, I told him that I thought of him as a photo negative of Bootsy Collins (who he has worked with ironically enough)
The power trio Kelly Richey Band is touring behind their latest release "Sweet Spirit" which tackles difficult subjects with raw intensity that is evident in Richey's 'leave a bucket of blood on the floor' with every show mindset.
The Kelly Richey Band will be at Old Skoolz in Sioux Falls (921 E. 8th Street) this Saturday evening (August 24) at 9pm. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door (if any tickets remain!) Get out and see this fantastic band in an intimate venue.
