March 2017 New Music Releases
Before we dig into an overview of March 2017 new music releases, we'd like to thank the industry for March 24. Apparently, they got together and scheduled almost every cool thing to take place on this particular Friday.
Pink Floyd begin a campaign of stand-alone releases taken from their massive Early Years box set on that day – beginning with Cambridge St/ation, which focuses on the early Syd Barrett-led era of 1965-67. Both Steve Hackett and Night Ranger have new albums set for release on the 24th. And Ian Anderson offers an entirely new take on Jethro Tull classics with The String Quartets too.
Another release digs into the Golliwogs, John Fogerty's pre-Creedence Clearwater Revival band. More than 20 Frank Zappa reissues – you read that right – arrive on March 24, as well. Paul McCartney also returns to perhaps his best '80s album, while Anthrax offer a 7" vinyl box set edition of their current album, For All Kings.
But what about the rest of March? Elsewhere, Bob Dylan is back with more Great American Songbook material and Dave Davies has an album with his son on the way. Look for a brand-new song from Chickenfoot as part of a compilation that blends hits and live stuff. Tedeschi Trucks Band, the Jerry Garcia Band and the Byrds are all subjects of new concert releases. Also, look for expanded-reissue treatments from Fleetwood Mac, Soundgarden and the Doors.
More information on these and other classic-rock releases can be found below. And remember to look at our updated list of 2017 New Music Releases for details on music issued throughout the year.
