Man Steals Bike Wielding a Hatchet in Sioux Falls Robbery
When you think of an armed robbery the first arms that come to mind are likely a knife or a pistol. A hatchet would not be likely to make that list.
According to Dakota News Now, police are looking for a man who did just that on Wednesday night in a neighborhood in northwest Sioux Falls.
At approximately 8:30 pm, the kids were playing with a tandem bike that they borrowed from a neighbor. As they were playing, a man walked up and took the bike from them.
The owner of the bike, who was still inside his home at the time, was told what happened by the kids. He then went on a search for the man and his bike. After finding the man and confronting him about the theft, the alleged bike-snatcher argued with the owner over it. When the owner tried to forcibly take the bike back, the suspect produced a hatchet and swung it at him, injuring him. The 53-year-old victim sought medical attention for a wound on his hand,
Sioux Falls Police Spokesman Sam Clemens said the suspect is described as middle eastern and has a black ponytail and beard. He also has tattoos and wore a green coat.
