Loverboy will make their third appearance at RibFest in Sioux Falls Thursday May 29 as they headline Canadian Invasion night with April Wine, Honeymoon Suite and Helix.

Loverboy is celebrating their 35th anniversary this summer and after all these years, lead singer Mike Reno is thrilled to look out in the audience at their shows and see not only long time fans, but seeing us bring our kids (and even grandkids!) to their shows.

The legend goes that the band chose their name after flipping through a magazine and seeing an ad for Cover Girl, which they changed to Cover Boy and then Loverboy. The band started fast as their live debut came as the opening act for KISS in 1979 before they were signed to a label or had recorded their debut album.

Their self-titled debut was recorded in 1980 and became an instant hit, selling over a million copies in Canada alone. A year later, they picked up six Juno Awards (the Canadian version of the Grammys) for their second release 'Get Lucky'. It's a Juno record that stands today.

Reno came to Sioux Falls and the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy for the lineup announcement which is where I got a few minutes to talk to him in the video below. Loverboy will bring decades of hits to town in May from 'Turn Me Loose' and 'The Kid Is Hot Tonight' to 'Hot Girls In Love' and 'Working For The Weekend'.

Tickets for Thursday night are available at the Arena box office, all ticketmaster locations or online here for just $10. Or get a full weekend pass (May 29-June 1) as we'll have 11 national bands during that weekend, for just $30! Proceeds from RibFest, presented by Dollar Loan Center, will benefit Boys & Girls Club in Sioux Falls and the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy.
